Dealing with Compassion Fatigue for Empaths & Sensitives

What is Compassion Fatigue?

Compassion is one of the most common behaviour in human beings. It is an aspect we are taught during our upbringing or circumstances conspire us to learn. Compassion is an outward expression which the empaths exude to the world hence it also makes them vulnerable to much of the negativity from surroundings.

 

The Empathy Factor

The Empaths I have met in the past few weeks appeared too low on energy levels, it wasn’t just the Christchurch mass shooting or most recent Sri Lankan terrorist attacks. Some delicate empaths I know have literally been into depression even by reading such news or watching the visuals on television and social media.

 

Such symptoms lead us into a condition which most spiritual people face on a daily basis – Compassion Fatigue. During my initial days of self-reflection & introspection, I used to literally force myself to take responsibility for everything that happened in my surroundings, which obviously took a toll on physical and emotional levels.

 

Balancing the gears

Over a period of time, this perception changed and I started to consciously recharge myself, my thoughts and the circle of like-minded people around me. In this Digital age, it is very hard to isolate or immune ourselves to the constant flooding of news, updates and beeps on our WhatsApp & Viber.

 

It is very important for us to take control and find balance to calm our sense and neutralize the shock.

 

Keys to radiating compassion without draining our spiritual senses are actually very simple:

1. Connect & converse with like-minded people

2. Take care of our body as a whole i.e. Physical, Emotional, Mental and Spiritual. Start with simple steps diet, walk in the park, yoga, meditation.

3. Balance your daily activities like spending time on electronic gadgets, social media

 

One of the most effective ways is to silence the thoughts and calm the constant peaks of brain waves. Personally I have found silent meditation to be more effective, where the brain is kept out of the circuit; hence the sensory nerves are not waiting for an instruction….anymore.
